  • Be familiar with student responsibilities.  It is important for parents to take an active role working with their child/children and the teachers at Battle River Online.

  • Take time to monitor your child's assignments, projects, and exams.

  • Visit the Battle River Online Web site frequently to read the news and check the "Calendar" as important dates and events will be posted.

  • Aid your child in setting up a workstation with the necessary supplies.  Organization is extremely important in this type of schooling.

  • Maintain communication with your child's teacher/teachers.  Often students will work harder and be more accurate concerning their work when they are aware of parents and teachers communicating frequently.

  • Establish a separate e-mail account, if possible, for communicating with teachers and other Battle River Online staff.

  • Take your child to important "call backs" (Usually four a school year), field trips, interviews, and exams as needed.  Attend all scheduled meetings for parents.

  • Help your child follow the directions on "Computer Care" found in the Software & Help section of Battle River Online.  If you are leasing the computer, be sure to return it in good condition in the original containers.

  • Help organize extra-curricular activities with your child's teacher.  These activities are more difficult for teachers to organize as they are not full time and may have other school responsibilities.  Parental assistance is necessary.

  • Please be aware of the School Board Administrative Policy on Acceptable use of the wide area network and the internet (Administrative Procedure 140)

  • Check your child's marks by going into the "Marks" section of the school.  Your child's marks will be private and not available to other students.

  • Read through information provided by the Alberta Learning on Provincial Achievement Exams, that are given at the end of the school year for grades 3,6,9, and 12.

  • Parents are the "Primary educational facilitators for their children."  Parent support is a significant factor in students being successful with this alternative type of education
