Administrative Procedure 561

RENTAL OF SCHOOL BUSES TO CONTRACT OPERATORS / OTHER EDUCATIONAL AUTHORITIES FOR REGULAR ROUTES

Background

The Division believes that, when necessary it should cooperate with local contract bus operators and other educational authorities by making available Division-owned school buses on occasions when circumstances prevent the use of the contractor’s own equipment for regular routes.

Procedures

1.      The Division may rent school buses at an hourly rate to be determined from time to time to the following:

1.1              Contract bus operators providing regular service to the Division.

1.2              Elk Island Catholic Separate Regional Division #41 for the purpose of serving regular routes located within the City of Camrose.

2.      The hourly rental rate is intended to cover the consumption of fuel and the use of the bus.

3.      The rental of school buses to contact bus operators and the Elk Island Catholic Separate Regional Division #41 Board shall occur when unusual circumstances such as a mechanical failure prevents that party from using their own equipment and will be subject to the availability of a bus from the Division’s spare bus fleet.

4.      The person requesting use of a Division-owned bus must determine the availability of a bus by contacting the Director of Transportation, the Transportation Foreman, or the Principal of the school at which a spare bus is located.

5.      A report of the hours of usage must be filed with the Director of Transportation within five days of the usage, whereupon an invoice will be issued to the renter.

6.      The bus must be returned following its use in a clean condition and ready for its next trip.
