BRSD recognizes award recipients

Three staff and one community member from the Battle River School Division were celebrated by the Board of Trustees in June.

The three staff members included teacher Linda Coutts, who was one of a small number of teachers from across Alberta to receive an Excellence in Teaching Award in 2009; Jeff Rathwell, a teacher and basketball coach who received an Alberta School Athletics Association award for Sportsmanship in Coaching, while also leading his team to a fifth place provincial finish; and Casey Johnson, who was BRSD’s nominee for the Edwin Parr Award, which recognizes outstanding first year teachers.

The community member is Berdie Fowler, who is a member of the Alberta Order of Excellence and also holds an honourary Doctorate of Laws degree from the University of Alberta. Information about Mrs. Fowler is being added as resource material to the Alberta Social Studies curriculum.
