A
group of 10 girls from Grades 4 and 5 at Holden School took to the
streets on June 1, to raise awareness and funds in support of Alzheimer
Disease.
Grade 4 student Shalyn Roth, whose grandmother suffered from the
disease, came up with the idea of holding a bike-a-thon in support of
this cause. Nine of her schoolmates signed on, including Grade 4
students Heidi Bratrud, Sarah Hrabek, Becca Plouffe, and Grade 5
students Katie Reist, Mykaela Gara, Larissa Bilyk, Bretyn Anderson,
Samantha Shihinski and Shelby Kushnir, along with their teacher Mrs.
Osland and a couple of supportive community helpers.
The
Ever Active Schools project contributed t-shirts for the riders and the
team took bike safety lessons and did training rides on their own time.
By the time the event
was complete, the students had $2023.16 in their fundraising jar. |
