The staff
has been selected for Reading University and they’re already excited!
Four
teachers and four assistants have been brought on board for this special
four-week reading adventure. They include Jerritt Brandt, Katherine
Cook, Trevor Kvale and Maurice Samm; while assistants will be Jocelyn
Burns; Kylie Cryderman; Erin Hafso and Cordelia Tindall.
The
teachers met together on June 24 to go over some of their ideas and
plans and came away feeling energized and excited by what the program
has to offer.
Reading
University will be offered during the month of July, to a special group
of Grade 2 and 3 students in Camrose who have been identified as needing
a boost to their reading skills.
This pilot
project is being funded jointly through donations to the Battle River
Community Foundation and the Battle River School Division. Significant
donors include Central Agencies / the Mayer family; Norsemen Inn / Joe
and Paula Cramer; the Camrose Booster; and Samm I Am Consulting / David
and Helen Samm.
Also
offering assistance are the Augustana Campus of the U of A, where
Reading University will take place; the Camrose Adult Learning Council,
which is donating books for the students; and the Adult Read and Write
Program, which is offering volunteer training.
A total of
37 students will attend this intense but interesting program, to gain
new skills while they enjoy their summer. Volunteer readers are welcome
and so are additional donors. Call Helen at 672-8754 to sign up for
reading or field trips; call the Battle River Community Foundation at
679-0449 to contribute financially. You can be a part of something
special! |
