Outreach schools were established to meet the needs of youth who have experienced difficulties in their personal lives that do not allow them to continue their academics at a traditional school.
Outreach schools, of which there are three in Battle River Regional, helps students with their education, family relations, life skills, and agency relations.
Students work in an environment where the student/teacher ratio is low, allowing for greater one-on-one interaction. Each student is set up with an individual educational plan that allows for them to learn at their own pace. Outreach schools are designed for students 16-20 years of age, in Grades 10-12. A 15-year-old student may be accepted into the program as long as he/she turns 16 before completion of the school year.
Prior to acceptance into the program the student is required to do the following:
Complete an application form which is then given to the traditional school. The traditional school determines who is a suitable outreach student.
The student must participate in an interview with the teacher and caseworker to determine suitability for the program. The student must agree, in writing, to abide by the regulations as outlined in the student contract.
Outreach staff will make the final decision on the individual students acceptability into the program.
Battle River School Division has three Outreach Schools, including PACE (located in the newly constructed Camrose Community Centre); NorthStar at Tofield School; and Phoenix at Central High Sedgewick Public School. |
