Programs
We have regular English
programming for kindergarten to grade 6. The students have the opportunity to
take French as a Second Language beginning at grade 4.
The French
Immersion program is available for kindergarten to grade 5 in 2008-09, and will
be fully phased in (K-6) by 2009-10. Children may enter at either kindergarten or grade 1 with no previous
knowledge of French.
A
variety of special education programs are available to help provide students the
type of support they may require as specified in their Individual Program Plans.
We have a strong
music and drama program at Sifton. As well, the school is well
equipped to help students meet the outcomes of the Information and Communication
Technology curriculum.
Regular
English Program
École
Sifton School is becoming a dual-track school, which means that over time, two
complete programs from kindergarten to grade 6 will be offered in the same
building, one in French and the other in English. By hearing and interacting
with the students and teachers of the Immersion program, and enjoying the
professional French cultural performances and events, the children in the
regular English program gain an appreciation and acceptance of another language
and culture while receiving their education fully in English.
Why Consider
French Immersion?
Open the door of your child’s future in the world of
business, higher education, and travel, while at the same time broadening an
understanding of other nationalities and cultures. French Immersion students
have consistently scored as well or better than other students on provincial
achievement tests in all subject areas, while becoming proficient in a second
language at the same time.
Who can access
the French Immersion Program?
The program is offered
to all students in Battle River School Division. Busing to the program is
available to students in the City of Camrose, and to students in the County of
Camrose who reside in the École Sifton School attendance area.
Parents of students in the French Immersion
program who do not reside in the attendance area noted above should contact the
Director of Transportation at BRSD #31 for details about the eligibility
requirements for transportation.
