High School Plus

High School Plus

In BRSD, we believe that planning for life within and beyond high school requires the development of a student’s capacity to achieve their personal goals for work and life. We recognize that students are the author of their story. Empowering them to become lifelong learners who are adaptable, competent, and fulfilled requires the commitment of a team of supports comprised of students, parents/guardians, school staff, and the broader community.

BRSD offers a number of programs and supports to assist students as they participate in a meaningful career connection journey.

Career Counselling Services

The role of BRSD Career Counsellors is to assist secondary students with career counselling as they prepare for High School Plus. The team also supports staff in implementing the BRSD Career Scope & Sequence.

The focus includes: school to work transitions, school to post-secondary planning, supporting the use of myPass and myBlueprint, class presentations, and the sharing of career resources such as the BRSD Career Planning Site for students, staff, parents & guardians.

Career Scope & Sequence

The BRSD Career Scope & Sequence outlines a grade level career pathway to guide the work of ensuring every secondary student in BRSD has the opportunity to participate in meaningful career connection activities. The conversations are intended to be woven into a variety of situations, classes, and courses placing the student at the centre of their own learning as architects of their future.

High School Redesign

All of BRSD’s high schools participate in High School Redesign - a province-wide initiative focused on rethinking and redesigning high schools to become increasingly more student centered.

The initiative is is built around three guiding outcomes: engaged students, high levels of achievement and quality teaching.  Each school is asked to consider nine foundational principles as they develop strategies to meet their unique school contexts:

  • Mastery Learning

  • Rigorous & Relevant Curriculum

  • Personalization

  • Flexible Learning Environments

  • Educator Roles and Professional Development

  • Meaningful Relationships

  • Home & Community Involvement

  • Assessment

  • Welcoming, Caring, Respectful & Safe Learning Environments
