Keeping technology up to date

At their January 26 meeting members of the BRSD Board of Trustees heard from Director of Technology, Ken Robitaille, who provided an overview of all the technology our school division uses and the process his department    follows to ensure technology is updated regularly.

There are nearly 3200 chromebooks in use across BRSD, along with 671   Windows towers, 280 laptops, 325 iPads, 161 printers, 57 copiers, 28 video-stream cameras and a further 13 gym A/V systems.  That’s in addition to the 680 network-based phones, 403 security cameras, 20 network intercoms and 330 projectors. Tying it all together are over 8400 network accounts , 214    wi-fi access points and 125 routers / switches.

Keeping it all in good working order is the role of the Technology Department. They use an “evergreen” system to ensure devices are updated regularly — a predefined schedule of replacement, in order to maintain dependable and consistent service on a fixed budget.

Annual Education Results Report

The Board of Trustees reviewed BRSD’s Annual Education Results Report, which provides an overview of how the school division has been addressing provincial and local education priorities and the results that have been achieved over the last year.

This report  includes data and information from a variety of sources, which combine to provide a picture of the learning and teaching taking place with the division. A copy is available on the website (brsd.ab.ca)

Community Engagement

The BRSD Board of Trustees is looking forward to upcoming gatherings with the Flagstaff County Council and the Beaver Regional Partnership group. They are very pleased to have the opportunity to meet their municipal partners in person and learn more about each other’s priorities.

Attendance Boundary Review

Last fall the BRSD Board made the decision to review rural school attendance boundaries to ensure that, after 27 years, they are still efficient, effective and serving the needs of BRSD families. Consultant Brian Callaghan has now been retained to assist with this process. The Board intends to host community meetings this spring, to welcome input from communities.
