Demonstrating their brand-new  literacy skills

Members of the Ryley School Grade 1 class, along with their Teacher and Principal, visited the BRSD Board of Trustees on April 27, to demonstrate the strategies they are using to bolster their brand-new literacy skills.

It’s Budget Time

Since we were given information about our funding for the next school year, in late March, BRSD has been evaluating and determining how to   allocate the dollars we will receive in ways that are best suited to meeting our student needs. Some areas of the budget (such as Instruction) have  decreased, and others (such as Operations and Maintenance) have received more, but overall, our funding for 2023-2024 is very close to what we     received in the current year.  The final budget will be approved by the Board of Trustees at the end of May.

Phase 2 of Viking School Envelop Project Approved

A tender for the second phase of upgrading the envelop of the Viking School was approved by the Board of Trustees on April 27. This phase will include further work on the building’s exterior, including the gymnasium and more. The cost is expected to be about $1.4 million, with dollars being accessed from BRSD’s Capital Maintenance and Renewal (CMR) and         Infrastructure Maintenance and Renewal (IMR) funding.

Fees Approved

The Board voted to set Adult Student fees for the 2023-2024 school year at $204.33 per credit taken.

In addition, the Board voted to maintain the tuition fee of $10,900 for      International Students. While this fee has  remained the same, the cost of the International Student Homestay Program has increased. Additional fees will be approved when the Board reviews budget information  at the end of May.

Policy Revisions

As part of its ongoing process of reviewing policies, the Board voted to     approve updates and revisions to Policy 3, Schedule A (Board Annual Work Plan), Policy 8 (Board Operations), Policy 9 (Committees of the Board) and Policy 20 (Safe, Caring and Healthy Schools and Worksites).

Relocating an Outreach School

BRSD has made the decision to relocate the Northstar Outreach School in Tofield to a location inside the existing Tofield School. This change will ensure that outreach students still have a personalized educational experience, while also enabling students enrolled in Tofield School to access online courses and support for additional subjects when needed.

Election Candidate Forums

Battle River School Division and the ATA Local are partnering with the Camrose Chamber of Commerce to offer a provincial election candidate forum at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10, at the Jeanne and Peter Lougheed Centre.

The two groups are also partnering with the Flagstaff Rural Crime Watch Society to offer a candidate forum on Tuesday, May 23 at 6:30 p.m. at the Forestburg School.

Everyone is welcome to attend these events and learn more about the views and plans of candidates in the Camrose Constituency.
