BRSD Celebrates a Year of Successes and Extends Summer Wishes

As Battle River School Division (BRSD) approaches the end of its 2023-24 school year and the last day for students on June 27, 2024, BRSD proudly celebrates a year filled with outstanding achievements and memorable experiences. Guided by its vision: Every Student, Every Day, a Success, BRSD proudly shares highlights from this remarkable year.

BRSD students have excelled across various fields, showcasing their talents, dedication and hard work. Highlights include impressive concerts, band performances, drama productions and choir recitals. Indigenous activities and traditions were shared throughout the division. Our students have also achieved exceptional success in sports and the newly introduced esports teams, along with active participation in a wide array of clubs and events, further enriching their educational experience.

On May 31, elementary students from Jack Stuart, Sparling, and Our Lady of Mount Pleasant schools joined in an inclusive and fun-filled day at the City of Camrose Elementary Track Meet. Ten participants from grades 3 to 6 competed in various events, including the bean bag toss, soccer kick, ball throw, 50-meter dash and long jump. During this year's event, the Unified Games initiative ensured that all students had the chance to shine, each receiving a ribbon to bring home at the end of the day.

Unified Games is a sports initiative that brings together athletes with and without disabilities to compete. Promoted by Special Olympics, this program fosters inclusion, breaks down stereotypes, and promotes mutual respect and understanding. Unified Games aims to create a more inclusive society by encouraging participants to work together, build friendships, and develop their athletic skills in a supportive environment.

June has been particularly eventful and rewarding, featuring Grade 12 Farewell celebrations, field trips, and a series of final assessments, including Diploma Exams and Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs). These activities have provided our students with numerous opportunities to excel academically and engage in diverse extracurricular activities.

We are pleased to share that the recent APORI survey indicates that 87 percent of parents and guardians feel our learning environments are safe, welcoming and respectful, and that 89 percent feel that students are safe at school, are learning the importance of caring for others, are learning respect for others, and are treated fairly in school.

In response to valuable feedback from nearly 300 stakeholders, we have revised our Three Year Education Plan to focus on three key priorities: Learning Success for All; Enhance High Quality Learning and Working Environments; and Well-being. The priorities are designed to guide our efforts in future years. More details about these priorities are on our website.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our dedicated staff, supportive parents, and hardworking students for making this year a success. Your collective efforts have been instrumental in fostering a positive and nurturing learning environment.

As a reminder, BRSD Division Offices moved in March 2024. The new address is: 4302 38 Street, Camrose, AB  T4V 4B2

We wish everyone a safe and wonderful summer break, and look forward to welcoming students back on Tuesday, September 3, 2024.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership.
